Film Studies: Matters of the Heart- Family, Friends, and Community!
The literary ideas of Romanticism vs. Realism will be studied in this Inquiry-style Exploratory as they relate to the themes of "family, friends, and community".
Our primary mentor text will be Mark Twain's classic The Adventures of Tom Sawyer with Disney's "Tom and Huck" as our first analysis film for Elements of Fiction and plot mapping. Additional literature will include James Hurst's short story "The Scarlet Ibis" and M. Night Shamyalan's The Village as we study the literacy skills of Elements of Fiction, plot mapping, and text structures in order to develop clear and accurate direct/ implied main ideas and sophisticated themes. I look forward to deepening your literary skills while we discover the importance of our human connectedness through classic and modern texts- Happy Reading!
