Dangers, excitement, and finding strength through life's challenges define this literary genre.
Primary texts this quarter will focus on various Biographies thematically crossed with the literary concepts of Conflict (ie. Man vs. Man, Nature, Self, Technology, etc.). Critical thinking and Metacognitive Strategies will be applied as we study relevant ways to survive in the outside world. Short biographical stories from the lives of John Nash, Aron Ralston, Louie Zamperini, the Andrea Gail, the Apollo 13 mission, “Let’s Roll!” By Lisa Beamer, and historical infomation regarding both the Titanic disaster and the Influenza epidemic of 1918. Inquiry activities may include a Survival Fair, physical challenges through a class “Survivor” game, and guest speakers which are intended to enrich the texts. 4th quarter should be an exciting journey!
